In 2025, IRCC introduced an additional Express Entry targeted draw category for education professionals. This is an important step that opens up new opportunities for skilled workers both within and outside Canada.
The new category includes the following professions:
- Secondary school teachers
- Elementary school and kindergarten teachers
- Early childhood educators and assistants
- Instructors of persons with disabilities
- Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants
The first and so far only draw in this category took place on May 1, 2025. The CRS passing score was 479.
This immigration route can be particularly effective for candidates located outside of Canada. Considering that the last general draw for candidates without Canadian experience took place back in April 2024, such targeted draws become a real chance to apply for permanent residence.
It is important to note that participation in targeted draws is only possible if you meet the requirements of one of the Express Entry programs - Federal Skilled Worker or Canadian Experience Class.
In addition, professions in the field of education are also in demand in provincial and pilot programs immigration. If you don't have enough points in Express Entry, you should definitely consider alternative immigration routes.
