Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program in 2025

The Canadian government has updated plans for the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program (PGP). In 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will accept up to 25,000 applications for processing under the Family Sponsorship category. This is significantly more than the previously announced limit of 10,000 applications.

This quota will include applications received in 2024 but processed in 2025, as well as 10,000 new applications submitted and processed in 2025. These changes were published in the Canada Gazette on March 22, 2025, as part of the Minister's updated guidance.

How will the selection of applications take place in 2025?

IRCC will continue to select sponsors from the pool of "Interest to Sponsor forms" of 2020. This means that no new applications for the program will be accepted in 2025. Instead, the department will randomly invite candidates from the 2020 list to submit a full sponsorship application.
