The Province of Ontario has finally shared some important news about its OINP provincial nominee program. So far, Ontario has issued only 4 nominations in the first 5 months of this year and has paused its draws.
Nomination quotas have been halved
After prolonged negotiations with the federal government, it has been announced that Ontario's nomination allocation has been cut by half. The expected quota for 2025 is about 10,750 nominations.
How will this affect the processing times for applications?
The reduction in the allocation will lead to longer application review times. The province will be forced to adjust to the new restrictions and redistribute nominations based on program priorities and regional needs.
Priorities remain unknown
At this time, the province has not released a list of industries that will be given priority when considering nominations under the reduced allocation.
New bill
Additionally, a new bill, the Working for Workers Seven Act, 2025, was recently introduced. If passed, it would allow the province to return nomination applications that no longer meet current labour market needs.
