Changes to income requirement calculation for parent and grandparent super visas<\/h2>\n

Starting March 31, 2026<\/strong> IRCC is changing the way it calculates income requirement for eligibility for a super visa<\/a>. The goal is to make the program more equitable and accessible to more families.<\/p>\n

Super visa<\/span><\/a> is a multiple-entry visa that allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to visit family in Canada and stay for up to five years without leaving. One of requirements of a super visa is possession sufficient income to support the invited relatives during their stay in Canada.<\/p>\n

Updated income requirements:<\/h3>\n

    Extension of the income assessment period<\/strong><\/h4>\n

    Hosts and their co-signer (if applicable) may meet or exceed the income requirement in either one of the two taxation years preceding the time of application. Previously, IRCC assessed only the year before.<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Allowing for the income of parents or grandparents to be added into calculation<\/strong><\/h4>\n

    If income of a host and a co-signer does not meet the required minimum level, the income of the invited parents or grandparents can be added<\/strong>to cover the remaining amount.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
