Express Entry 2026: New Category-based Draws
On February 18, 2026, Canadian Immigration Minister Lena Diab announced new categories for category-based draws in Express Entry for 2026.
The government continues to move toward a more targeted and strategic approach to immigration, focusing on attracting skilled workers in demand in the Canadian labour market.
New categories Express Entry in 2026
1. Transport occupations
Pilots, aircraft mechanics, inspectors and other transport industry specialists.
2. Physicians with experience in Canada
A separate category for foreign medical doctors who already have Canadian work experience.
3. Senior managers with Canadian experience
Senior managers with Canadian experience.
4. Researchers with Canadian experience
Highly qualified specialists in the field of scientific research.
5. Skilled military recruits
Candidates accepted for key roles in Canadian Armed Forces (military doctors, nurses, pilots, etc.).

What does this mean for candidates?
It is important to remember that the last general draw for Federal Skilled Worker Program for candidates without Canadian work experience was held back in 2023.
